Hi Folks,

Red Hat are interested in finding out more about what eCos is being used
for. We know of eCos based systems being used in a diverse array of shipping
products including laser printers, mp3 players, raid arrays, voice
recognition, broadband gateways, telecoms, telematics, remote access, radar,
etc. This however is obviously just the tip of the iceberg! Because of the
nature of open source development we generally only find out about the use
eCos is being put to when a company requests custom engineering work or a
support contract, by word of mouth, or when we get a contribution back.

We are looking to you for feedback that will help us form a more accurate
understanding of the uses eCos is being put to - what are the most popular
applications and processors, the amount of ongoing product development,
actual designs being shipped, etc. The information gained will be used to
the overall community's benefit in helping to guide eCos development and
better publicize and raise the profile of eCos based products.

We can offer individuals that respond the opportunity for their company to
participate in PR with Red Hat, to have their product featured on an
upcoming embedded application gallery on the Red Hat web site, and if
required, we will also provide a written release from the license
stipulation for eCos to be mentioned in your products documentation.

We understand that most of you will need to keep this information
confidential so feel free to mail me direct. All information provided will
be held in the strictest confidence and will not be released without your
permission. I am looking for a simple overview of your company's use(s) of
eCos. Please include the following information in your reply:

Company:
Short overview of eCos based application(s):
Short overview of h/w design(s) including CPU used:

I hope you agree, providing this information is a small thing to do in
comparison to the benefits you have gained from your companies use of eCos!

Many Thanks, Paul.

I agree with you so here goes my info.
I have a AEB-1 board with the gdb stubs installed
The objective is PURE FUN! You must be thinking, what does a 19 years
old guy playing with this?
Well, don't know... Started on 15 with a AT89C2051 but I'm aiming it for
a Robot contest in my university.
The 'bot and the board is just for fun and not for commercial use/sell.

When finished the board will have:
(Hardware)
-an expansion slot with 512 KB de flash and 1 MB of RAM (to add to the
main memory of the AEB)
-IV detection sensor and obstacles, rotation sensor, etc.
-IRDA through the use of the IRDA port of the AEB using a Philips
transceiver
-Maybe a Texas DSP for the signals and CAN managing
-battery charger and monitor
-graphical display (maybe a 192x128 B/W) and capability for a PS/2 keyboard
-and whatever I feel putting when I wake up
(Software)
-Multithreading
-Drivers for battery charger, display, PS/2, etc.
-Maybe a voice synthesizer? :)

With the free samples programs some companies have sky is the limit

BTW do you like my 'bot? :)
Feel free to see the contest website: http://microrato.ua.pt

Best regards and keep the excellent work, to all of the red hat community

Hi there,

As requested some basic information as to the kind of use / environment that
we are using eCos.

Company : Transcomm UK plc.
Business Sector : Mobitex Radio Network Operator

Use of eCos : AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) Product - Tardis 3
Concept : Provide fleet managers with real time information as to the
location and
status of their vehicle fleets along with two way communications to the
 		        driver of the vehicles.
Hardware : Proprietary embedded system based around ARM7TDMI core ASIC
ASIC also contains GPS navigation engine
board contains Mobitex Radio Modem, and numerous IO (serial and
			  bitwise), RTC etc.
Memory real-estate: 8 MBit Flash 4 MBit BB Static RAM 1 MBit EDO RAM
Application : System monitors the location of a vehicle (or trailer) using
DGPS.
Additional monitoring of the vehicle state is also possible
(temperature of
