Why not use RedBoot (the *supported* debug environment)?  It's
quite easy to build (if prebuilt images are not available).

  % ecosconfig new eb40 redboot
  % ecosconfig import ${ECOS_REPOSITORY}/hal/arm/at91/current/misc/redboot_ROM.ecm
  % ecosconfig tree
  % make

Where can I download GDB stub binary file for EB40? 

I have tried to compile it from ecos>stub, but no file generated.
What should I do?

  Is there any documentation on what does the GDB stub has to do to
enable debugging.

  I'd like to read something about this before analyzing eCos' sources.

  I have initially ported it to my own system (ARM based) and I have
some problems while debugging, I use an embeddedICE but I can't single
step or mark breakpoints (neither HW nor SW).

  I have started the port with eCos 1.3.1, I haven't still reviewed the
new features that have appeared ¿does the hal interface changes?

The GDB stub talks GDB protocol - via serial or ethernet. It doesn't
(yet) support any form for ICE.

There have been changes, but I'm not sure how many happened after
1.3.1. Looking at the CVS sources would definitely be better.
