hi
i had successfully build redboot package for i386 PC (vmware) hardware, for startup type as "grub".
i do not have floppy drive i my laptop and could not ue RAM as redboot is still to be installed.
now in redboot_install/bin i got redboot.elf. what to do with that.
how could i use it to see redboot prompt on vmware (ubuntu installed).
please give some clear and detailed explanation.

Here's how I do it using Qemu:
http://www.panix.com/~grante/eCos-on-QEMU.html
You should be able to extrapolate from that to using vmware.
Here's another document on using Qemu that boots from a floppy image
instead (I chose CDROM because some of my apps won't fit on a floppy):
