Are you expecting that the patch should apply with this?

  patch < hal_i386.patch

It doesn't look like the patch was generated at the root of the ecos
repository.  I can apply the patch by hand if I need to.  I'm asking
in case there's an easier way.

I really don't remember from which directory the patch was generated..
maybe the hal subdirectory, just look at the patch. Anyway you will
probably have to apply some parts by hand if you're applying it to a
recent CVS.
