I'm sure there are people on this list who don't know as I didn't know 2
weeks ago but the jtag-tools at openwince.sf.net work fine with the
macgraigor wiggler so there's one less (the last actually for me) reason
to use windows from time to time.
this tool supports several types of ARMs and flashes and are a real help

that's all

Hallo,

with which ARM do you use it?
I have just tried it with an Samsung S3C4510B (ARM7TDMI), but with no luck.

jtag> cable ppdev /dev/parport0 WIGGLER
Initializing Macraigor Wiggler JTAG Cable on ppdev port /dev/parport0
jtag> detect
detect_parts: bad JTAG connection (TDO is 1)

SA1100 and PXA
I haven't tried it with ARM7 though.

See the README where this error is described.

"your JTAG adapter is not connected properly, or your target board
doesn't work, or your JTAG-aware chip doesn't support JTAG ID detection
   (IDCODE instruction)."

I get this error too and my processor is the AT91R40008. :(.

I have also tried as follows:

jtag> cable parallel 0x378 WIGGLER
Initializing Macraigor Wiggler JTAG Cable on parallel port at 0x378
jtag> detect
jtag>

But then I get no answer from detect.

I think our processors are not supported :-(

JTAG-aware parts (chips):
- Atmel ATmega128 (partial support)
- Broadcom BCM1250
- Hitachi SH7727
- Intel IXP425
- Intel SA1110
- Intel PXA250/PXA255
- Intel PXA261/262
- Xilinx XC2C256-TQ144
- Xilinx XCR3128XL-CS144
- Xilinx XCR3256XL-FT256

To bad, this is just what I'm searching for.

The AT91r40008 (and all arm7tdmi cores AFAIK) do not support the full
JTAG. However, it does support enough to perform rudimentary debugging
(e.g. OCD Commander works).

I was digging around today and stumbled upon this:

http://www.ocdemon.com/gdb_mods.tgs

These are the mods Macraigor Systems have made to GDB to support the
wiggler. Hmm. I wonder if anyone has tried applying these files (they're
not patches) agains the current gdb source?

I have also tried the gdb with modifications of Macraigor Systems, but this
does only work under Windows for the wiggler.

I know they work under windows. However, I'm curious if anyone has tried
to use this code on a non-windows OS. I compared the McCraigor files with
what's distributed with gdb. As one would expect, there are differences.
But what is it that prevents this code from working on a non-windows OS?
Is there an *extra* .dll that one must use to enable their gdb mods to
work properly? Is it OCDLibRemote? Also, as a rhetorical question, why
would a company that exclusively sells hardware intentionally hide the
software interface to it's products? On second thought, forget that I
asked the question... maybe I should go read Slashdot or something.

It is wigglers.dll

Maybe they're pressed by providers of commercial tools. They don't even
answer if you ask them about it.

Well, what I find incredulous is that the arm-elf package that they
provide won't install on Windows 98SE (setup croaks with error -5002).
Thus even if I had an inclination to do my ARM development on a Windows
Box, I *still* couldn't use their tool beyond what's provided by OCDemon.
Sigh. What are they going to do when eCos eventually puts all other RTOS's
out of business? I guess I'm full of rhetorical questions today...

IIRC, Wiggler support used to be built into gdb as standard but was
removed by the gdb maintainers since their software was not GPL
friendly. I don't know the specifics. When asked, the company in
question would not open source their software either since the IP of the
wiggler does not lie within the hardware (which turns out to be a very
simple piece of kit) but within their dll software.
