Subject: [ECOS] Mail sent to eCos team members...
Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 08:01:00 -0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <3AE443CB.37AF8321@redhat.com> (raw)

There's been an increasing number of eCos users that are deluging eCos team
members with direct e-mail, not CC'd to the ecos-discuss list, asking for
help.

I think this is a good time to remind everyone that team members only give
advice and help when they have the time and other commitments permit. You
can't get one-to-one support. That's something Red Hat sell! This does mean
that not every enquiry gets a response, even easy ones. We're hoping more
non-team members will step up to answer things we don't have time for to
meet the level of demand.

I should give everyone warning that requests for help not CC'd to
ecos-discuss will almost certainly be silently ignored! Of course no-one
may answer on the list either :-), but at least you've got more of a
chance, and everyone will get the benefit of any replies.

Also some queries have so little information, and no attempt has been made
to actually debug any problem, that it doesn't matter how frequently you
mail, you just won't get an answer. It's open source - which means everyone
already has everything you need to debug and fix your problems! But without
some effort to track down actual problems, there's very little anyone can
or will do.

For people who do need that level of support, Red Hat offer commercial
level support at
http://www.redhat.com/embedded/technologies/ecos/ecos_support.html
Customers then do get the help they need to solve whatever problems they
encounter.

I would also like to thank those on the list who _aren't_ team members but
who do help out. In particular, Lewin, Grant, thanks :-).
