Linux would indeed not do anything. You may be using old GDB stubs in the edb7xxx flash that may not support thread debugging unless you enable "Include GDB stubs" in your downloaded application. You can either enable that option in your configuration, or perhaps consider switching to RedBoot - see http://sources.redhat.com/ecos/ and click on Supported Hardware, and then the "More Info" link for your board.
