Yes, but there are some known difficulties due to the lack of any locking between the two uses (at the very least imagine what happens if you stop it actually within the ethernet driver); and what happens to timeouts, and incoming packets destined for the eCos side that will get received even though the system is ostensibly meant to be stopped.
