That's not the problem here. This is a tools issue:

No, you should type i386-elf-gcc -g -I/ework/ework_install/include hello.c
-L/ework/ework_install/lib -Ttarget.ld -nostdlib
Using "gcc" is wrong because that is your native gcc, in your case for
cygwin.
