Hi fellow eCos'ers,
I am a newbie at eCos. I am taking a course on real-time operating
systems at Illinois Institute of Technology.
I have install eCos on a Windows XP system and am running the eCos
using cygwin. I am having some trouble running my first hello world
application.
I am able to compile/build my application fine with gcc (i386-elf-gcc
-g -I/opt/Aziz_install/include hello.c -L/opt/Aziz_install/lib
-Ttarget.ld -nostdlib) however I can't get the program to run on gdb.
At first I dont see anything happening, but then I get the error:
Ignoring packet error, continuing...
warning: unrecognized item "timeout" in "qSupported" response
I am running the following commands:
i386-elf-gdb -nw a.out
then at the gdb prompt, I am running:
set remotebaud 38400
target remote /dev/ttyS0
What am I doing wrong. I tried to run some of the test cases
(Tools>run tests) but they too return the same error. My goal is to be
able to simulate the running of the program as it would on a real time
system.
Any guidance will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Aziz

Dear experts,
I am trying to build RedBoot with the GUI configtool and I am experiencing
some problems with the include paths. I can't figure out why the paths are
wrong when the compiler is called and I don't know where some of the flags
come from as well... The makefile pointed by the make seems correct, however
it seems that there is another source for all these settings, which I
haven't been able to track down so far...
I am working with the toolchain from ecos-3.0 and the latest anonymous cvs
checkout.
Thanks,
/Mikhail

Without some details, we can't help much...
* What target?
* What host/build platform?
* How did you configure the build?
* What are the errors?

Gary,
Thanks for your help.
> * What target?
The target is a Xilinx ML403 Virtex4 target added with a patch. Perhaps this
is the root of the problem... The patch was created against much older eCos
sources.
> * What host/build platform?
Windows XP, cygwin 1.7.3
> * How did you configure the build?
Basically I follow the instructions in COMPILING REDBOOT chapter in
ecos-ML403-miniHOWTO.txt found here:
http://typo3.cs.uni-paderborn.de/fileadmin/Informatik/AG-Platzner/Research/ReconOS/eCos-ML403/ecos-ML403-miniHOWTO.txt
$ export HW_DESIGN=/opt/ML403-redboot/bsp/
$ cd /opt/ecos/ecos-anoncvs
$ /opt/ecos/ecos-3.0/tools/bin/configtool
And then I do exactly what is said in the guide... except for I couldn't
edit target.ld script as it's not there, but I left this problem for
later...
> * What are the errors?
The errors is that the compiler can't find a header file in BSP. For some
reason the $HW_DESIGN variable is omitted in the compiler call:
-I/ppc405_0/include should be -I$HW_DESIGN/ppc405_0/include

I tried building RedBoot for other targets to verify my toolchain, every
time getting different errors, mostly some undefined macros. The last I
tried was PowerPC simulator. Here is what I get in this case:
=======================

=======================
So, I was wondering, is there a target that should give me a clean build to
confirm that my toolchain is working before I dig deeper?
Thanks,
/Mikhail

The warning message indicates a problem with your serial connection to
the debug target. Presumably you are connecting to a PC target which is
booting into RedBoot. If you connect to the target using a terminal
emulator (38400-8N1 and no handshaking) rather than GDB, do you see the
RedBoot prompt?

Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a soap implementation available on eCos. I read something about eSoap, but I can't find the sources for this. Are there other solutions to have web services available in eCos?
Kind regards,
Stijn.
