Why do you think its garbage?

gdb can interpret it for you.

I am trying to compile a simple C code for my arm processor IXDP425.

the contents of my_file.c which i wish to run on the arm processor is

/* this is a simple hello world program */
#include <stdio.h>

int main(void)
{
 printf("Hello, eCos world!\n");
 return 0;
}

the steps that i follow are as listed below.

1. make
 (the Makefile was already present in the directory)

2. arm-elf-objcopy -O srec my_file my_file.srec

this gives me my_file.srec

3. after that i try to load this file using redboot (launched from
minicom) by giving the folowing command

Redboot> load -v -m yModem

4. then i transfer my_file.srec using the Y MODEM protocol. the file
gets transferred.

When the transfer is complete, i get a sound from the IXDP425 and the
following message

RedBoot> load -v -m yMODEM
Entry point: 0x00080040, address range: 0x00080000-0x0008868c
xyzModem - CRC mode, 777(SOH)/0(STX)/0(CAN) packets, 11 retries

5. thwn when i type go, i get the following error

RedBoot> go
$T050f:00080044;0d:0ffd0fec;#1b

on pressing any key, the garbage string gets repeated

RedBoot> go
$T050f:00080044;0d:0ffd0fec;#1b$T050f:00080044;0d:0ffd0fec;#1b$T050f:00080044;0

Can anyone tell me what should i do?

You link eCos directly with your application to give you the executable. I
recommend you read the Getting Started guide in the documentation to get
familiar with the principles.

No. GCC cannot generate ARM executable format binaries, although they are
very similar to the ELF format binaries GCC does generate. Someone may
already have written a conversion tool - I'd be interested to know if they
have.

hi guys,
   we are able to compile ecos successfully with our cross-compiler for
   an ARM target. where does the compiler store the image of ecos so that
we can convert that image into binary and run it on our multiICE kit?
   also when we compile our applications what will be the name of the
   executable, will it have a .axf extension?
   thanx a lot in advance.
   with regards
   rajeev
