Hi,
I have a question about eCos export restrictions and ECC Number classification.
Is there some CCATS classification for the eCos operating system?
Thanks,
Francisco.

In reference to the operating system itself, I believe it is exempt.
http://www.access.gpo.gov/bis/ear/txt/774_sup2.txt grants a general
exception for mass market software. In any case there is no category on the
Commerce Control List that eCos (at least in its form as distributed from
ecos.sourceware.org) could fall into. Of course that may not be true for
any product eCos is placed in, but that's your own responsibility.
The closest you get is ECCN 4D003 (see
<http://www.access.gpo.gov/bis/ear/txt/ccl4.txt> but eCos is not
*specially* designed for "multi-data-stream processing" equipment so I
cannot see that applying.
Therefore the ECCN should be EAR99. Note there are still controls on
exports to certain countries.
I suggest reading
http://www.bis.doc.gov/Licensing/exportingbasics.htm
I am not a lawyer. Do not take what I wrote above as any form of advice or
recommendation - complying with your local laws are your own responsibility.

The machine on which ecos.sourceware.org is hosted (which is also
sourceware.org and cygwin.com) has a policy on this:
http://sourceware.org/lists.html#archive-archive
As that FAQ entry indicates, your mail has been duplicated and archived in
countless places all across the internet, both public and private. For
example I believe this includes mail-archive.com, news.gmane.org,
readlist.com, marc.info, etc.etc. From the moment you hit "Send" it is simply
too late to do anything about it. Removing it would achieve nothing in practice.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but you might be surprised with how many people
ask the sourceware.org maintainers about editing the archives. Each one takes
a while - it's archived in multiple places even on sourceware.org. It's simply
not feasible for a volunteer-operated service to do this for everyone who
requests it.

Dear madam, mister,
I a m working on a research project around RTOS.
I am selecting a few RTOS for the projet and I have specific
requirements needs.
I can't find any information on the internet concerning PCIe support.
It would be nice of you if you could give an answer to the following
question or to give me a contact to be able to have an answer.
- Does eCos supports PCIe (PCI Express) communication and how to use it?
Thank you very much.

eCos supports PCI, but not PCIe. Sorry.

The documentation at http://ecos.sourceware.org/docs-latest/ is still the
best place to go for now. The user guide is mostly usage of eCos, but the
reference guide is more important - particularly the HAL documentation
which includes a Porting Guide. The component writer's guide will also be
useful because you'll need to know details about writing CDL.
Hope this helps.

Hello!
I tried to use eCos on the AT91SAM7S-ek board, but failed somehow. I
dealt with the snapshot version of January 7 2007.
At first I've compiled RedBoot (quite successfully) and programmed it
into the board's flash memory. It seems to work in general but I could
do nothing useful with it. I tried to download an application via
RS232 by the "load" command. The process started and ran (though
pretty slowly and with many retries), but failed to write into flash
addresses.
The eCos documentation says that if I use the ROM variant of RedBoot
then I should compile an application for the RAM startup, but I
couldn't do that because of lacking of some eCos support files. By the
way, I've noticed that compiling RedBoot for ROM and RAM ends up with
quite identical result images.
Then I took prebuilt RedBoot images from the eCos web-site, but it
seems do not work at all on my board.
Please, help me to start anyhow. I would greatly appreciate any hint.
Thanks in advance,
Igor.

I would not use RedBoot with the AT91SAM7 series. These devices do not
have enough flash/RAM to make proper use of Redboot. It is much better
to just use JTAG and build ROM eCos applications. That is why there
are no RAM memory configuration files. I don't think i makes sense to
run eCos in RAM.

Hello,
My name is Tim Hogan -- I am an electrical engineer with the night
vision group of Northrop Grumman. We are trying to find a company or
individual that can provide on-site eCos support in the Dallas area for
the next few months.
We have an old eCos design that was built by an outside contractor, and
now we are starting a new design. We want to update eCos and RedBoot,
and add some drivers, interrupt support, a file system, etc. We also
need assistance setting up the eCos tool chain in house.
As this is a defense application, we need an individual that is a US
Citizen or Permanent Resident, or a company that is based in the US.
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations or referrals you can
provide.

We are interested in having a third party port eCos to our ARM922T-based 5 port 10/100 Ethernet home gateway. We would like this done in a very short amount of time. Can you recommend a third party that can supply this service?

KarlNet, Inc. has been working for some time to develop a custom
bootloader application on top of eCos for a PowerPC MPC8245 platform.
We have been able to get Redboot to work, but we need other features and
the eCos kernel seemed like the best foundation for our application.
However, we have been having some trouble with a variety of things not
working in a reliable fashion (interrupts, scheduler/thread management,
etc.), and our deadline is looming. We either need to contract with
someone who can help us get this finished soon, or punt and develop
something that is not eCos based.
Ultimately, we need an application we can easily support on a variety of
platforms, including, probably, i386, MIPs, ARM, etc. In the short term
we need MPC8245-knowledgeable help.
Can you recommend someone who could consult on the problems we are
seeing?
Thank you.

I can only speak for eCosCentric in this regard. Certainly we are in a
position to support you on MPC8245 and on the other architectures you
mention. You can check out our range of support options here:

Greetings,
We are implementing a new system on a Viper SBC (XScale based PC-104)
made my Arcom.
Arcom has provided support up to the level of creating a RedBoot loader
for their card.
Are there any companies that would provide commercial support in
developing a robust serial driver package to run on eCos?
We need software that will generate interrupts upon:
1) recognition of a specified string (eg., carriage return, line feed)
2) receiving a certain number of characters
3) receiving a certain number of characters either before or after
receiving a specified string

Do you know of anyone that sells a complete package (development board

Or do you have a system (development board) that you can recommend us to
