I guess your ask about search results only (not build issue :-)
As I could understand, mnoGoSearch (search engine on sourceware.org)
does index only the posts with 'us-ascii' and 'iso-8859-1' character
sets. So, you can find the very few own posts on sourceware.org due the
reason
http://sourceware.org/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=david_fernandez
Check [Raw Text] output for any links from the list and you will see in
the headers
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
So, mnoGoSearch was happy to index them and find such posts.
In opposite, if you look on your Subject (thanks to Google):
http://sourceware.org/ml/ecos-discuss/2012-06/msg00019.html
You will find in that header
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252
Well, as Google has more power to index everything, it was easy to find
the post your talk about (no need to have local copy):
https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=configtool+for+linux+building+problems
It was interesting that Google found your message only on the mirrors as
nabble.com and gmain.org and the e-mail copies in those archives are utf-8
encoded (re-encoded from originals).
In old good days I would say use ASCII for the lists and today I have no
definitive advice.
