ftrace doesn't pass the environment on its children:

$ echo $DISPLAY
:0.0
$ ftrace -version
0.0.1.2008.03.19.rh1
$ ftrace -- `which bash` -c set | grep DISPLAY
DISPLAY=:0.0
$ ./frysk-core/frysk/bindir/ftrace -version
0.2.50
$ ./frysk-core/frysk/bindir/ftrace -- bash -c set | grep DISPLAY
$
