Subject: net release coming soon
Date: Mon, 03 Oct 1994 00:30:00 -0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <9410030730.AA04516@> (raw)

I'd like to get a net release of gas+binutils out sometime Real Soon.

If you haven't tested on your system in a while, please give it a shot
and let me know if there are problems. I've changed some of the
assembler's relocation handling a bit recently to try to get i386 svr4
pic support working, and it still bootstraps okay on the sun4, so I
don't think it's too broken.

If you've sent me patches that've only been half-way integrated, please
remind me to finish; I'll be rechecking my mail, but I might miss
something somewhere. If you've sent me patches that haven't been
integrated at all, and they're adding new functionality rather than
fixing bugs, I'm probably waiting until after the release -- but once
it's out, it couldn't hurt to remind me again.

If we get really lucky and there aren't any serious problems, I'll try
to release it around next weekend. Otherwise, maybe early next week --
that'd still leave time to get a bug-fix release out later this month if
needed, before the FSF's next CD-ROM is cut.

I'll probably release the whole package under the name "binutils 2.5",
and just send out a notice about gas being incorporated into binutils at
this point. I'm willing to be persuaded that it should be "gas 2.5"
instead, but I'm inclined to think that gas does not have *that* much
more name recognition, and "binary utilities" is a more correct name...

Ken
