Mark,

Many thanks for your fast response to my query and link to the bug-report
web page. Thanks to this, I now realize that the included source file (cpp
output) made the message too long for your mail relay. As my previous note
mentioned, a copy has been put on our web site
( http://ext.rlab.cs.nyu.edu/~freudent/xfer/egcs-bug-report.txt ).

Does my bug report at contain adequate & appropriate information for folk to
debug it?

Our (the NYU team's) pockets are too shallow to purchase support at this
time, though I'm tempted to write it into future contracts. The rest of the
folk on the project, who are far richer than we, will just avoid the
transition to linux should they come to believe that egcs isn't a serious
system. This will have the unfortunate effect of forcing us back to
solaris.

The code we're building works just fine with gcc, which rarely gave us
trouble. Of course, we all are hopefull that we'll shortly be able to use
the enhanced c++ language features available in egcs, should the system
build.

Regards, Eric

this is embarrasing. The person who I asked to install rh6 actually
installed rh5.2 (which is well known to have a buggy compiler).

Others on our project found problems with the compiler distributed with rh6.
I'll build the various current egcs & start over...

Many thanks for your help,
Eric

Thanks for your bug report. gcc-2.95 19990606 compiles your code just
fine, so it appears that the bug has been fixed. I recommend to
install a snapshot of the upcoming gcc 2.95; if you find any remaining
problems with those snapshots, there is a chance that they get fixed
before gcc 2.95 is released - which will be in a few weeks.

Hope this helps
Martin

P.S. I just noticed that you are using egcs 1.0.3, which is quite old.
I compiled the code successfully with egcs 1.1.2, which is the most
recent public release.

Egcs folk,

I just about convinced our project's leadership to seriously look at
switching to linux (we were using rh5, which uses gcc rather than
egcs, and handled our c and c++ sources fine) when the egcs shipped
with current redhat release (6) derailed my effort by failing with
an internal consistency problem.

I submitted a bug report including cpp output. When should someone be able
to look into this problem?

A copy of my bug report is in http://www.rlab.cs.nyu.edu/~freudent/xfer

Thanks, Eric
