This is from the RPM that Red Hat has on their site, version 2.96 20000724
(experimental) plus a bunch of patches, compiled on i686 linux.

This source:

class A {
};
class B : private A {
};
class C : protected B {
	public:
		static A a;
};
static A a;

gives this message:

/tmp/private.cc:1: `class A' is inaccessible
/tmp/private.cc:7: within this context

That doesn't make sense to me. Of course, it may not be that way in a later
snapshot. I can't keep up with the snapshots any more; they haven't been
stable enough to really even offer bug reports for as a compiler layman.

Subject: Long compile time for testsuite g++.other/headers1.C with enable-checking

I have been following up --enable-checking=tree,misc,gc,gcac testsuite
failures on irix6.5. The failure of g++.other/headers1.C is due to a
timeout. This test is taking 882s to compile on an unloaded r10k processor.
CPU bound, as it was getting 99+% of CPU and only required about 14MB of
memory.  Is this a problem?

I have been following up --enable-checking=tree,misc,gc,gcac testsuite
failures on irix6.5.

The failure  g++.old-deja/g++.law/operators24.C:13: Internal error:
Segmentation fault.

seems to occur at in ggc_set_mark at ggc-page.c:341. The reduced test case

typedef int ptrdiff_t;
typedef unsigned int size_t;
struct Link {
  void* operator new(size_t, int);
  friend void* __builtin_new(size_t);
};
void f() { new(2) Link; }

gives

Can persue it, but will need step by step instructions.
