Since I'm currently working on support for the O32 ABI on IRIX, I may be able to
figure out what's wrong on IRIX 5.3 as well.  If you can get me access to an
IRIX 5.3 box (and enough diskspace for the bootstrap etc.), I'll investigate.

I've now finished bootstrap and testing on mainline.  Initial testsuite results
are here:

It depends on this patch

and a few minor (yet unsubmitted) ones for the bootstrap to succeed.  Some of 
the current testsuite failures can also be easily avoided.  I'll post a summary
patch when I've worked them out.

Yes, that patch only was a prerequisite.  Apart from dejagnu workarounds
for some warnings when running the testsuite, I need patches to iris5.h,
iris6-o32.h and iris6-o32-as.h, which have to be re-tested on current
mainline.  Unfortunately, at least the mips-sgi-irix6.5o32 configuration
with the native as failed to bootstrap for unrelated reasons on 20030808,
and I'm just recovering from a three-week vacation :-)
