It looks like this code is trying to use a character
encoding with an empty name.  That isn't valid.
You'd have to debug to see whether this is a bug in
the application or somewhere in libgcj.

No feedback in 3 months and we have no way to know if this is libgcj bug, a GCJ bug, or the 
source code bug.
