This does not work in many cases, for example: Naming.rebind("rmi://127.0.0.1:1099/CalculatorService", c); results in an UnknownHostException. See also this thread: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java/2003-08/msg00149.html java.rmi.Naming should be modified to use the java.net.URI class, once that is implemented.
