The Java program below searches for "foo.la", I wouldn't have expected it do do 
so under Windows. I'll attach a log.

When I launch an SWT app compiled with GCJ, 7000 file log entries are 
registered in filemon from www.sysinternals.com. I looked into this as part of 
trying to track down a random crash reported on my app.

Why do not expect it to look for *.la, libtool is still useful on cygwin?

This isn't a bug.

We use libltdl to search for libraries.
This will try to find and use .la files.
This is a feature of libltdl.

If this causes problems, let's re-open this
PR and take it up with the libtool maintainers.
I suspect it is ok though.
