This is a documentation bug. GCC is not expected nor intended to build under Microsoft Visual
C++. If you wish to build gcc on Windows, you will need to use a previous version of gcc to build
with (Check cygwin.com). I have a patch for the documentation that says something to this effect
waiting for approval: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2003-06/msg00090.html

Just thought I would add a note. I experienced this when I did not have the
environment variable CPP set properly.
