[Bug other/13573] New: Manual changes from GCC book need to be merged

The changes made to the GCC manual for the latest published edition need
to be considered for merging into GCC CVS, otherwise when there's a new
edition for 3.4 or 3.5 it will regress relative to the 3.3 edition and
users of the manual distributed with current GCC won't benefit from the
cleanups made for the printed manual.  Only a few isolated changes were
submitted to gcc-patches; there seems to have been no systematic effort
by the people preparing the manual for the FSF to ensure that every change
was considered for the mainline manual: once the version for printing had
been finalised, contact on technical details of changes to the manual seems
to have ceased.

The sources used to be at <http://devers.homeip.net:8080/gccbook/edited/>
but that site now seems to have gone down so it may be necessary to get the
correct sources from GNU Press, and manually determine the base version on
3.3 branch against which to compare them if no-one can confirm the CVS
version on which they were based.

(cdevers@pobox.com was dealing with the changes to the manual but isn't
recognised by Bugzilla for CC purposes.)

Not that I know of.  I've tried more than once to contact Chris Devers who
was preparing the manual for them and might also know the underlying CVS
version (and whose website which had the files is now persistently down),
with no response.

Opus has provided the sources as used for the printed manual.  I've put 
these at 
<ftp://gcc.gnu.org/pub/gcc/old-releases/printed-manual/using-gcc3.3.1-doc.tar.gz>.  
I'll attach a raw diff relative to 3.3 branch (so mixing reversions of 
subsequent 3.3 branch changes with genuine manual changes - every change 
will need careful comparison with 3.3 branch logs) to this bug.

According to Opus:

I've enquired as to whether this means we can get rid of the "Funding Free 
Software" Invariant Section that this manual removes without adding the 
new "Free Software and Free Manuals" section.

I do not propose to do anything on this part of the merge; someone who
still likes invariant sections will need to be found to spend their time
on replacing one with another (and associated manpage build support).

There isn't a patch in a useful state for applying to 3.4.0, just 11000
lines of raw diffs that need going through to identify which individual
changes are genuine and wanted.  Each such logical change I've extracted
so far has gone on both mainline and 3.4 branch.

The last attached diffs represents the current set of diffs which need 
individual logical changes extracting, converting to equivalent logical 
mainline changes and reviewing.
