Compilation of engine_c.i with tree-ssa using -O2 -m4 gives the following:
tree-ssa:
real 5m16.927s
user 5m1.700s
sys 0m8.310s
mainline:
real 3m42.652s
user 3m35.380s
sys 0m5.350s
