With: gcc version 3.5-tree-ssa 20031130 (merged 20031123)
mymod.f90:
MODULE mymod
TYPE :: mymod_type
INTEGER field1
CHARACTER(80) field2
END TYPE
TYPE (mymod_type), &
& DIMENSION(:), ALLOCATABLE :: AN_EXAMPLE
END MODULE mymod
test.f90
SUBROUTINE mytest (MYARG)
USE mymod;
INTEGER :: MYARG
DO i = 1,MYARG
AN_EXAMPLE(i) = mymod_type (0,' ')
ENDDO
END
gfortran -c test.f90
test.f90: In function `mytest':
test.f90:5: internal compiler error: in operand_subword_force, at emit-rtl.c:1731
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <URL:http://gcc.gnu.org/bugs.html> for instructions.
If field2's type is changed to something else, everything works fine.

This is most likely a middle-end problem rather than a front-end problem.

------- Additional Comments From pinskia at gcc dot gnu dot org 2003-12-02 16:01 -------
Confirmed, I really do not know if this is caused by the Tree to RTL expanders or the Fortran front-
end, with optimizations it still ICE's in the same place.
