[Bug other/13961] New: 3.3.3-prerelease is missing info files

Hi Gaby,

almost all .info files are missing in the gcc 3.3.3-20040131
prerelease (only fastjar.info is included).

Btw, since this is the second time the info files are missing
(gcc 3.2.2 or 3.2.1 was shipped without them IIRC) shouldn't
the release instructions be updated with a mandatory check?

Most certainly!
I think, it should check that all tools needed to build the tarballs
are present and hard error -before- the source build starts.
(For example, I've discovered very late in the build that the "brik"
program was missing in my new environment).

You don't want to duplicate the specific version numbers (it's hard enough
as is to ensure that people changing them update them everywhere they are
duplicated).  In the case of brik, that's only used from the script, so
there isn't a duplication issue.  In the case of makeinfo and Pod::Man,
perhaps --enable-generated-files-in-srcdir could also turn the relevant
configure checks into hard errors (and for bison and flex though those
would get caught anyway by build errors)?

Sure.  But, what I would appreciate is some checkings before going on
building.  Some may appear before the source is downloaded (brik,
makeinof and Pod::Man); some may appear during configuration...
