3.2 is old at this point, can you try a newer release like 3.3.3, I cannot reproduce it on 3.2.3, 3.2.2, 
3.3.1, 3.3.3 or the mainline (3.5.0).

Ok, I will try the 3.3 series.

Apparently someone successfully compiled it with gcc 2.8.1 but that was ages 
ago.

Tried gcc 2.95.3 too but that ends in a ld-'bad value'-error without a reason 
given.
