bootstrap of gcc-3.5-20040620 on Darwin 7.0.1 hangs (== never completes) here:

GCC was bootstrapped like this:

mkdir /tmp/gcc
mkdir testbuild
cd testbuild/
../gcc-3.5-20040620/configure --prefix=/tmp/gcc
make bootstrap STAGE1_CFLAGS="-no-cpp-precomp -Wa,-force_cpusubtype_ALL -g"

If I heard correctly this is a kernel bug which was fixed.
