[Bug fortran/21875] New: [meta] NIST test suite failures

This PR is open to track all NIST testsuite failures. Both original and
F95-modified versions can be found on
http://www.fortran-2000.com/ArnaudRecipes/fcvs21_f95.html

Today, on i68-linux, F95 version has folllowing failures: FM110, FM11, FM171,
FM903, FM906, FM908, FM909, FM923.

The mainline patch in comment #4 causes SPEC CPU2000 test mgrid to fail on
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu.  This test case:

      PROGRAM BUG
      REAL A, B
      READ 1000, A, B
1000  FORMAT (E8.0,E8.0)
      STOP
      END

with this input:

1.0D1 2.0D1

fails with the output:

At line 3 of file bad.f
Fortran runtime error: Bad value during floating point read

Are you sure that is the testcase which fails since that also fails with "4.1.0 20050610" which is known 
to work with mgrid.

Oops.  This one passes with 20050709 and fails with 20050710, and is exactly
the format and input line from mgrid.

The snippet in Comment #6 fails correctly because the format is calling for a
field width of 8 characters.  The first read goes past the first number and into
the second and you basically are reading garbage.

We have upcoming patches within a few days that correct all remaining NIST bugs
including internal unit array I/O.  Tests of NIST are complete and we are
putting together some additional test cases and refining the patches now.
