The build of the Debian gcc-snapshot package, version 20081023, fails buring
the build of libgcc:

I've bootstrapped/regtested the trunk last night on s390-linux just fine.
Can you reproduce this with current trunk (there has been e.g. an IRA fix
for s390* compiler miscompilation)?
If yes, can you say which stage cc1 ICEs (stage1 or later stage), how you have
configured the compiler (e.g. which CPU variant it targets and/or tunes for)
and
if it is stage1 that ICEs, what bootstrap compiler was used, attach the
preprocessed source that triggers it and mention all options that were passed
to it.
