Subject: [Bug middle-end/107027] New: Please improve the documentation of global register variables
Date: Sat, 24 Sep 2022 18:28:51 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-107027-4@http.gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/> (raw)

https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=107027

            Bug ID: 107027
Summary: Please improve the documentation of global register
                    variables
           Product: gcc
           Version: unknown
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: middle-end
Assignee: unassigned at gcc dot gnu.org
Reporter: segher at gcc dot gnu.org
  Target Milestone: ---

The semantics of global register variables are a strict superset of the
semantics
of local register variables, but this isn't clearly documented. Having a
global
register variable as operand to an extended inline asm guarantees the register
declared for the register variable is used in the asm, it never is copied to a
temporary or similar.
