* [Bug web/32927] New: Online installation instructions only for mainline @ 2007-07-28 12:53 ammonton at cc dot helsinki dot fi 2007-07-28 17:12 ` [Bug web/32927] " pinskia at gcc dot gnu dot org ` (3 more replies) 0 siblings, 4 replies; 5+ messages in thread From: ammonton at cc dot helsinki dot fi @ 2007-07-28 12:53 UTC (permalink / raw) To: gcc-bugs The GCC installation instructions at <http://gcc.gnu.org/install/> only cover the mainline version. If the instructions were kept per-version as the GCC manual it would make configuring and installing release versions easier. See the thread starting at <http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2007-07/msg00279.html>. -- Summary: Online installation instructions only for mainline Product: gcc Version: unknown Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: web AssignedTo: unassigned at gcc dot gnu dot org ReportedBy: ammonton at cc dot helsinki dot fi http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=32927 ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

If you need instructions on how to install the installation instructions something is wrong, IMO. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=32927 ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

The older releases I checked (back to 4.0.1) had the instructions in the INSTALL directory. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=32927 ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

So the install instructions should behave like the OpenMP manual here http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/ and we will end up with: http://gcc.gnu.org/install/ for the current development version and http://gcc.gnu.org/install/gcc-4.2.0/ for GCC 4.2.0 as released. I guess this will require to adjust a few shell scripts and perhaps adjust a few webpages. Contributors are welcome. -- manu at gcc dot gnu dot org changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |manu at gcc dot gnu dot org Severity|normal |enhancement Status|WAITING |NEW Ever Confirmed|0 |1 Last reconfirmed|0000-00-00 00:00:00 |2007-09-17 17:56:57 date| | http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=32927 ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread
