The GCC installation instructions at <http://gcc.gnu.org/install/> only cover
the mainline version. If the instructions were kept per-version as the GCC
manual it would make configuring and installing release versions easier. See
the thread starting at <http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2007-07/msg00279.html>.

So the install instructions should behave like the OpenMP manual here http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/ and we will end up with: http://gcc.gnu.org/install/ for the current development version and http://gcc.gnu.org/install/gcc-4.2.0/ for GCC 4.2.0 as released. I guess this will require to adjust a few shell scripts and perhaps adjust a few webpages.
