Göran, you seem to care about these things. As you see, the main GCC devs, do
not. So if you really want to get this fixed, you have to submit patches. 

This particular kind of issue is so trivial that you don't need a copyright
assignment. Just send a patch to gcc-patches@. I am pretty sure that if you put
jsm28@gcc.gnu.org in the CC and ask him to commit it for you, he will. If he
doesn't, you write directly to me and I will commit it in your name.

Send a patch for each .opt file were you find the problem. 

If you know awk, maybe you could propose a patch to the genopt awk scripts to
detect this issue automatically and fix it.

Merge all multi-line descriptions in .opt files

That I'll do, I thought.

And promptly forgot about, apparently! :-(

Anyway, better late than never!  I've finally made this patch, and sent it as
instructed.  For completeness, I'm also attaching the patch here.

If multi-line descriptions are to be disallowed (and it does appear they
are outside the .opt format as presently documented in options.texi), then
opt-read.awk should generate an error on encountering such a description,
so such descriptions produce an immediate build failure rather than just
quietly causing translation problems.

It appears that multi-line descriptions in *.opt files are not picked up
correctly.  As an example, in config/bfin/bfin.opt there are these lines:

mleaf-id-shared-library
Target Report Mask(LEAF_ID_SHARED_LIBRARY)
Generate code that won't be linked against any other ID shared libraries,
but may be used as a shared library.

po/gcc.pot however, contains this:

#: config/bfin/bfin.opt:52
msgid ""
"Generate code that won't be linked against any other ID shared libraries,"
msgstr ""

That is, the second line of the description is missing.  (Or alternatively, it
is a bug in bfin.opt that more than one is used for the description.  I haven't
investigated what the defined format for these files are.)

This is a bug in config/bfin/bfin.opt .  We should not have mutliple lines
descriptions.
