After trying to systematically re-test recent version of gcc on
alphaev68-dec-osf5.1a for other issues, I see a fair number of zombie processes
from 4.7.x:

(I was testing all versions from 4.3.x onwards, so only 4.7.x. leaves zombie
processes behind)
