so a "better" c case is 
float * mem;
void sumN(int n) {
  float * a=mem;
  /*const*/ float * b=mem+n;
  /*const*/ float * c=mem+2*n;
  for (int i=0;i!=n;++i)
    a[i]=b[i]+c[i];
}
