When compiling with
-mthumb -mcpu=cortex-m55
I get:
cc1: warning: switch '-mcpu=cortex-m55' conflicts with '-march=armv8.1-m.main'
switch

unless I add -mfloat-abi=hard
or -march=armv8.1-m.main 
which is a bit counter-intuitive.
