Hello,

See the "Extensions to the C Language Family" section of the GCC manual and
the 'as' documentation, especially the "80386 Dependent Features ' section.

I have had no luck with the g++ compiler and I have had no luck finding any
original documentation on the AT&T syntax that you will find in th eabove
references. If anyone can help with either of these, I would appreciate
your comments. Thanks.

Regards,
Armand

See https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/InstallingGCC

To avoid messing up the system compiler install it to a different
path, e.g. under your home directory.

Hello,I am using Fedora 28 and gcc version 8.2 for installation of Gamess
but it is showing the error. So I have to install gcc version 6.4 first.
How may I install the 6.4 gcc version in fedora 28?

What do you mean, "other" ?

GCC is an ANSI C compiler, with some extensions. See its manual at
http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs for more infos.
