Hi guys,

I am using gcc 2.95.3 which I built from sources. I am getting following
error.Can anybody suggest what can be the culprit..

Yes:

#    The HP assembler on these systems has some problems. Most notably the
#    nassembler inserts timestamps into each object file it creates, causing
#    the 3-stage comparison test to fail during a make bootstrap.
#    You should be able to continue by saying make all after getting the
#    failure from make bootstrap.

When building Gcc with the make bootstrap command on a hp-ux system with version 10.20, after a few minutes I get the following see attachment.

 
I think they are comparison error between stage 1 and stage 2?


I have had a look around the net and not been able to find any reasons or answers for this.

 Not really - I've no idea what your needs are, or what your
 experience is. I can only tell you to read the documentation
 throughly, get good books on your language of choice, and good books
 on your problem domain.

This depends on your platform, and your needs. If you are using
windows, I suggest you check out www.cygwin.com or www.mingw.org .
Under Linux, Free/Open/Net/BSD,  gcc usually comes as a pre-installed
or optionally installed package, though the version provided is likely
2.95.3 or some such, not as new as 3.2.1 (lastest version of gcc).

If you are using MacOS X - I don't know - google apple's site for gcc,
I guess.

If you don't already have a C compiler on your system, you should

Just like on any other operating system, following the procedure
described in the INSTALL documentation.  Short form:

mkdir build-tree
cd build-tree
/path/to/srctree configure
make bootstrap
make install

Please Help

Hello.  I have a simple question.  In plain english, since the Installation 
HOWTO sucks, how do I install GCC 3.0.1 on my RedHat 7.1 machine?  I'm 
familiar with Linux enough that I think I can handle configuring/installing 
GCC however I'm totally confused on how to do it.  Anyone out there willing 
to help?

Not familar with solaris. However, this sounds like you haven't got
cc in your path. If you got root priviledge then try this:

su
cd /
find . -name cc -print

This should then print out the path for cc if you have it. 
Modify you path accordingly and set the environment variable
CC to cc.
