It's already executable under the $prefix/bin folder.

Can you run it by hand? Are you sure that's the one that's being
used?

Is it in your PATH?
oh, maybe not. Where, when, and how should I set this PATH?
Thanks

I tried to run it:
[ratbert]/usr/local-kirin/gnudev/gnu/m68k/bin% m68k-unknown-coff-ar
Usage: m68k-unknown-coff-ar [-]{dmpqrtx}[abcilosSuvV] [member-name] archive-file file...
m68k-unknown-coff-ar -M [<mri-script]
m68k-unknown-coff-ar: supported targets: coff-m68k versados ieee srec symbolsrec tekhex binary ihex
There's another m68k-unknown-coff-ar.1 in $prefix/man/man1/ though.
