Are you Darin> saying I can just extract this tar, include the path to gcc in my PATH Darin> (environment) and I've got a compiler I can use? Binaries are binaries. SMIT (actually installp) simply ensures that you have the proper pre-requisites (AIX header files installed, AIX libraries installed, etc.). If you untar the file into the proper directory (not just anywhere on your system) and include GCC in your PATH, it should work. If it does not work, make sure that you have the other AIX filesets installed for application development. If you have any further questions, please ask them publically, not privately to me. David
