I upgraded my binutils from 2.9.1 to 2.12.1, and that fixed the problem.
Apparently, the older assembler was misinterpreting the output from
gcc-3.1 and producing assembly code that made the linker guess wrongly
at the number of ELF headers needed.

This wasn't a whole lot of fun, but it was probably just about time to
upgrade my binutils, anyway ;-)

Thanks, guys, for all your help,
 - Dave

Can anyone tell me how to upgrade binutils and make
my GCC aware of new version of binutils. I could not
figure out this from the binutils README file.

I am having problems with building GCC cross compiler
on Linux platform for PowerPC target and I think the
"as", assembler is passed wrong option "-mppc" which
cause the build to fail.
Thanks for your help -Bijendra
