* Replicating xlc's __assert1 and __assert2 on AIX

I want to replicate what IBM's xlc does for __assert1 and __assert2.   
These built in functions generate trap instructions.

I believe I can do this using "asm" statements but this is new  
territory for me.  Mostly, this note is to just make sure that I am  
not re-inventing the wheel.  If this has already been done or  
something equivalent, please let me know.  Or... if anyone has some  
free advise, that will surely save buckets of time.
