If we build with the --enable-shared option, then g++ and g77 are unable to find the required libraries. We want to set up gcc to search /usr/local/GCC/lib when compiling *without* having to set up LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Is there a way of doing this? KDE for example requires that gcc be built in shared mode as does linux so --disable-shared, while apparently working on many systems, does cause problems and should be avoided. -- Said the fox to the fish, "Join me ashore".
