Hi,

I'm trying to find out the real answer to this:  is it possible to use gcov with shared libraries?

I see lots of posts online using google that claim gcov does not support shared libraries, but nothing official.

I am using gcc-4.3.3.

It works great using static libraries, but we would like to use it on some other code that can not as easily be built static.

We get link errors similar to the following:

sender.o(.data.rel+0x48): undefined reference to `__gcov_merge_add'

Any information greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Hi,

Can anyone clairfy these

 1. gcov kernel patch - Can this patch be applied to any OS
     which has gcc support & proc support?
 
 2. Can we port this patch & apply it on mac os or any   
     OS? If not what are the constraints?

 3. Is there any patch that is similar to this that can be 
     used on mac os or any os?
 
 4. what happens when .da files data is read, how is taken
     from /proc or tracefile?
 
 5. Can u mail me any mailing lists where i can get  
     information regarding GCOV patch?

I don't think your questions have much to do with gcc.
    Why don't you search:
    http://ltp.sourceforge.net/coverage/gcov-kernel.php 
    for an appropriate forum. Maybe the people who wrote it can answer
    your questions.

I would be very surprised to hear of a kernel patch which was not
    specific to a particular OS. Kernel code is the most OS-specific
    part of an OS.
