* Using SSE in gcc compiles (for Intel Architecture)

I have cpu intensive code that I am compiling for Linux (2.4.18) with the
latest gcc.  From my benchmark results, I surmise that the gcc generated
code is not taking advantage of SSE.  I have looked at the man pages, but
am not sure how to turn-on SSE
