I have a fresh install of Solaris 8 and trying to install gcc-3.0 by
entering ./configure. I get an error "The command 'cc -o conftest -g
conftest.c' failed" and "You must set the environment variable CC to a
working compiler"
It doesn't appear that solaris 8 installs a c compiler by default, I
installed the entire distribution of Solaris 8.

Thank you,

Chad

Then get a pre-compiled one. Have a look at the links in the Download
Binaries page at gcc.gnu.org
