Here's what I committed after testing (with flag_rename_registers forced
on).  I get
FAIL: gcc.target/i386/vperm-v4sf-1.c (test for excess errors)
FAIL: gcc.target/i386/vperm-v4si-2x.c (test for excess errors)

which appears unrelated and also shows up on gcc-testresults.

One more thing I added to the patch is an initialization of best_nregs
because I remembered that I'd seen compiler warnings for this.
