Is this because you'd rather force the optimizers to deal with the fact 
that there is a cast there, than only care if they want to?

Or something else?

And if it's the first solution, than I would assume your preferred 
solution to this problem is to make
((cast)var).field gimple, and audit the optimizers to make sure they 
aren't going to silently generate bad code in this case?
Or do you have something else in mind?
