 State-Changed-Why:

 THANK YOU FOR YOUR SPEEDY REPLY! HERE ARE THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:

     (1) What Linux distribution are you running? What version?

 SUSE 6.3, BUT WITH UPDATE TO THE LATEST KERNEL 2.4.13.

     (2)  What version of glibc?

 SUSE 6.3 INCLUDES /usr/i486-glibc20-linux/lib/libc.so.6 AND
 i486-glibc20-linux/egcs-2.91.66

     (3) Do you have a file on your system /usr/include/bits/resource.h
          or /usr/include/sys/resource.h which defines RUSAGE_CHILDREN?

 /usr/include/bits/resource.h defines RUSAGE_CHILDREN, BUT NOT
 /usr/include/sys/resource.h.

 BUT I ALSO HAVE IN THE SOURCE TREE OF THE LINUX KERNEL

 /usr/src/linux-2.4.13/include/linux/resource.h
 /usr/src/linux-2.4.13/include/asm-i386/resource.h

 DO I HAVE TO LINK TO THESE H-FILES INSTEAD?

     (4) In the gcc directory, there should be a file
          config.cache which is created. Are there some lines
     in that file that looks like:
     ac_cv_header_sys_resource_h=
     ac_cv_func_getrusage=

 IN config.cache I FIND THE FOLLOWING VALUES:

 ac_cv_header_sys_resource_h=${ac_cv_header_sys_resource_h=no}
 ac_cv_func_getrusage=${ac_cv_func_getrusage=yes}

     What values are on those lines?

     Thanks.

 MANY THANKS TO YOU!

 -Michael
