 The full path is "/usr/lsd/SunOS.5.8/lib/libiconv.so". I'll try your patch
 for configure and get back with you today if at all possible.

 What is the full path of your libiconv.so library on your
 system?
 
 From your build log, it looks like the Makefile is not
 putting the path of the directory that contains
 libiconv.so in LDFLAGS.
